A psychiatrist in the United States has spent a year knitting a precise replica of the human brain.
Dr Karen Norberg of the National Bureau of Econimic research in Cambridge, Massachusetts, knitted all the different parts of the brain before bringing them all together. What began as a labour of love, turned in to a real challenge, as she was determined to complete the task.
How to make the brain a cuddly item, and making a ridiculously complex item for no practical reason at all, were Dr Norberg's guiding principles. "Wool lends itself to this kind of project as you can get the rippling effect found in the real thing, much better than any other materials such as clay or metals".
This woolly brain is now on display in the Boston Museum of Science.
