Artist Merel Karhof noticed the way wind blows in and out of cul de sacs in London and decided to harvest this free energy to create a product. She ended up devising a wind powered knitting machine.
The knitted tube created feeds in to the building where the artist sits in the shop and harvests length of the product from time to time. Lots gets knitting on windy days, not much happens on quiet days.
The lengths are cut and marked with the date and the time it took to create it, each piece an individual and unique item.
Merel has named this machine the Wind Knitting Factory.
