In early July 2009, Manos del Uruguay was admitted as a full member of the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO), the global representative of over 350 organisations comitted to 100% fair trade.
WFTO members are oganisations committed to eradicate poverty through sustainable economic development, pioneering social and environmental policy and practice. Through continual reinvestment in marginalised artisans, farmers and producer communities in some of the most fragile places on earth, Manos del Uruguay has applied these ethics over the last 40 years.
Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equality in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalised producers and workers.
