October 2008

Knitting is a wonderful, weird (nice) and friendly world. We went to our first  Knit and Stitch show at Alexandra Palace, London which was packed and full of knitters of all ages including students. They were attracted by the degree shows displaying the most amazing quantity and quality of contemporary knitting. It was good to see knitting at its best.

My family will tell you I will talk to anyone (well almost) which is a useful trait to have working in marketing. At lunch we met lovely knitters who were very positive about a new knitting website, they even gave me their email addresses – here is a hello to the first members of the Serenity Knitting newsletter – Jan(knitterbocker), Heather, Ros and Sue and thank you for your encouraging comments – here is a lovely picture of Sue in a pink knitted hat!
Luckily for us world famous Rowan is just up the road in Holmfirth (Last of the Summer Wine country) where we were invited to preview their Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Facilitated by renowned design consultant Erika Knight we were introduced to the new catalogues – lots of ooohs and aaaahs as we were taken through the thinking behind each fashion story. I saw clearly that knitting can hold its own against the contemporary fashion. I would loved to have some items knitted for me( are you listening Jadz!!)  We met the man from bioRe who presented on how his company have developed systems for ensuring that quality yarn can be developed organically and using fair trade principles.
