Make a real difference to people's lives, buy fairtrade and organic yarns.

By buying fairtrade and organic yarns, you can help promote healthy and sustainable economic growth without damaging the environment, in poor and disadvantaged communities.

The Fairtrade vision is to live in a world in which fairness and social development is at the core of trade structures and practices, so that everyone can develop their full potential through their work, while maintaining a decent and dignified livelihood.

For more info on the work of the Fairtrade Foundation, and the World Fair Trade Organisation follow the link.

Both Manos del Uruguay yarns and the Mirasol Project yarns are fairtrade yarns. Manos del Uruguay has recently gained full membership to the World Fair Trade Organisation. The Mirasol Project sells yarns to fund the development and ensure a basic education for the children in their communitiy, in the Andes in Peru.

Using organic yarns, you can be sure that no harmful pesticides have been used in the lifecycle of the cotton or wool and that the dyes used are not polluting the environment in which we live and in which our children will live in the future.

Both Rowan and Debbie Bliss cotton eco yarns are certified organic yarns ( european standards) and are manufactured by bioRe® , which is a textile chain which continually looks to improve the social conditions of the partners they work with. From cotton growers, spinning and dyeing mills and garment factories,  bioRe® ensures that the entire process is governed by the principles of organic cultivation, fairness, eco friendly processing, quality and transparency. See link more info on bioRe®.

If you care about where your yarns come from and want to help reduce the impact of yarn manufacture on the environment, then please do support these projects by buying fairtrade and organic yarns.
