The Antique Textile Fair in Manchester was full of stalls selling all manner of old costumes, books, textiles of all kinds. Not a huge amount of stuff for the knitter but we did find out about the Braid Society and the Macclesfield Silk Museum which is earmarked for a visit in May. We met Ruth Gilbert, a member of the Knitting History Forum who lives just outside of Huddersfield and writes academic papers on knitted fragments found on archaeological digs.
